Krill: the new secret of nutricosmetics

“The better you take care of yourself on the inside, the better you look on the outside.” Bobbi Brown

The words of this nutri-cosmetics pioneer sum up what we have known for a long time: our skin needs to be nourished to be healthy. And remember : a healthy skin is a beautiful skin. Although an application of external/topical skin care is useful and pleasant, it is not enough on its own! By nourishing our skin from the inside, we take care of its foundations.
The quality of the skin depends on several factors: there are of course extrinsic factors such as pollution, UV rays, temperature and cosmetic products.
But there are also intrinsic factors. Hormones first of all: what woman hasn’t had a small pimple in the middle of her chin at a certain time of the month? Certain genes are involved in skin ageing, but it is above all the environment that determines the moment of their action: sun, tobacco, pollution, stress can be responsible. It is therefore the external environment that modulates our genes involved in skin ageing.
Finally, there is one last intrinsic factor of great interest: nutrition. What we eat will enable our cells to function and renew themselves and it is precisely in this respect that Krill oil is a perfect ally.

What is krill?

Krill is a small crustacean found in the world’s oceans. But only in the clear, unpolluted waters of the Antarctic Ocean can they be found in schools and fished.

The oil extracted from them is unique for 4 reasons:

  • Krill oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids: these fatty acids are essential to support skin functions and are also vital for cardiovascular health, the eyes and the brain.
  • The fatty acids in krill oil are supplied in the form of phospholipids: these improve the bioavailability of the fatty acids and ensure their transport to their targets, the cell membranes. Did you know that every cell in our body is composed of phospholipids? They are essential constituents of cell membranes and are also the precursors of many intra- and intercellular messengers.
  • Krill oil is rich in choline: choline is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system, liver, muscles and much more.
  • Krill oil contains astaxanthin. This is a powerful antioxidant that gives krill oil its beautiful red colour and protects it from oxidation, thus eliminating the need for exogenous antioxidants.

How is krill oil the new product of the nutri-cosmetics industry?

Our partner Aker BioMarine, a biotechnology company and world leader in the production and marketing of krill oil, has conducted several studies to explore the benefits of krill oil on the skin.
The latest, SKIN II, is a double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 100 participants.
The results speak for themselves: a clear increase in skin hydration was observed after taking 1 gram of krill oil per day. The skin is moisturised and plumped up and therefore looks younger. In addition, the elasticity of the skin, which decreases with age, was significantly improved compared to the placebo group.

How can the effects of krill oil be explained?

The “phospholipid” effect:
– Modification of the composition of ceramides present in the outer layer of the epidermis
– Increase in hydration
The “omega-3” effect:
– Modification of the composition of phospholipids in the epidermis
– Modulation of inflammation
– Photo protection
– Increased hydration
– Suppleness of the skin
– Softness of the skin

Interesting fact

Improved skin hydration and elasticity is thought to be strongly correlated with blood omega-3 levels: subjects with more supple and hydrated skin have higher blood omega-3 levels.
→ By providing our cells with the right nutrients to support their proper functioning, krill oil capsules help to give your skin radiance, suppleness and hydration.

With two Krill Oil Capsules a day, your skin is nourished from the inside out: hydrated, it looks smoother and more radiant.
